Saaid Elhadad, Assistant Professor of Networking & Cyber security at Capital Community College will present this eye-opening “hands-on” workshop that will provide attendees with tools and techniques needed to mitigate the risk of Cyber security attacks and networking breaches, how to train employees to recognize these attacks and breaches, and what to do after they have identified it.  Professor Elhadad will explore many of the ways attackers can access your computer, and what you can do to prevent this. The seminar will explore previous cyber-attack cases, their consequences and steps taken by the companies affected.

Cyber security attacks are on the rise. Every day we see news stories from companies that have suffered a cyber-attack, and how thousands of records have been exposed. Hackers are nimble and innovative. There is no end to their creativity when it comes to cracking your computer’s security. Employees can, unknowingly, be an integral part of a cyber-attack. From stolen laptops and hacked smartphones, to emails with viruses, there are many ways a company can become a victim. You need to know what to be on the look-out for and how to respond.

Connecticut State Council of SHRM Awarded for Elevating Human Resources, Improving Workplaces

June 11, 2019 (Berlin, CT) — The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) recently awarded the Connecticut State Council of SHRM (CT SHRM) its prestigious Platinum Excel Award for the state council’s accomplishments in 2018.

The Excel award aligns individual chapters’ and state councils’ activities with SHRM’s aspirations for the HR profession. The award recognizes major accomplishments, strategic activities and tactical initiatives that elevate the profession of human resources.

Among CT SHRM’s many accomplishments recognized by this award are:

• Increasing the membership of newly certified and/or recertified members by 8.3%

• Becoming better informed at the state council and chapter levels in order to provide accurate and relevant advice to those HR professionals who inquire about certification and recertification

• Responding quickly and accurately to questions related to the value of SHRM vs. HRCI certifications

“The Platinum Excel Award is a reflection of our state council directors’ and chapter presidents’ participation in workplace initiatives that enhance development for human resources professionals in all types of organizations,” said Anne Peabody-Brostek, MBA, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, state director of CT SHRM. “Our impact is felt across a broad range of industry sectors, including manufacturing, technology, hospitality, healthcare, financial services, and many more. By establishing best practices and certification standards in HR, the CT SHRM council influences healthy and productive workplaces across the state and beyond.”

CT SHRM will receive national recognition in SHRM publications and at conferences, a logo to display on its Website, and information to share with its members about the significance of this award.

CT SHRM’s mission is to provide SHRM's Connecticut-based members and six state-wide affiliated chapters with: exemplary and innovative leadership and guidance; timely resources and education which can be easily understood and implemented; clear and timely communication between members, chapters, the area board, and the national board; high-level programs and pathways to enrich member capability; and more.
